Shaanxi

To understand China, one has to witness her 30-year progress in Shenzhen, 200-year  development in Shanghai, 500-year history in Beijing, and 5,000-year civilization in  Shaanxi. To learn about China, one must begin from Shaanxi.
One of the most important higher education bases in China, Shaanxi currently has 160 universities and colleges, of which 79 are mainstream government institutions, 12 are independent colleges, 18 are adult training schools, and seven are military facilities.
Shaanxi is located in the middle reaches of the Yellow River, in the hinterland of China. It is one of the important birthplaces of ancient Chinese civilization and the Chinese nation. About 800,000 years ago, Lantian Man thrived in the upper reaches of the Bahe River on the Guanzhong Plain.
The city, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, lies in the middle of Guanzhong Plain.
The Terracotta Army is not only Xi'an's most renowned cultural site but also one of the most significant archaeological discoveries in the world. For over two millennia, this life-size subterranean army has stood guard over the mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor to unify China.
The geography of the area is characterized by the Ordos Desert in the north along the border with Inner Mongolia, the Loess Plateau in the central part of the province, the Qinling Mountains running east to west in the south-central region, and a subtropical climate south of the Qinling Mountains.
Since the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, Shaanxi Province has conducted seven nationwide censuses, in 1953, 1964, 1982, 1990, 2000, 2010, and 2020.
Shaanxi is considered one of the cradles of Chinese civilization. Thirteen feudal dynasties established their capitals in the province during a span of more than 1,100 years, from the Zhou Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty.
The number of museums in Shaanxi has increased from 221 in 2013 to 360 today, with annual visitor figures rising from 33 million to more than 72 million. Major upgrading projects, including the Xi'an Beilin Museum and Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum, have been listed as key provincial cultural initiatives.
Laoguasa is a famous kind of cooked wheaten food in Shaanxi province. It is similar to and larger than dough balls. Round in the middle and pointed at its two ends, it appears like the head of a crow.
