Hong Kong-produced Cantonese comedy "Night King," starring Dayo Wong and Sammi Cheng, is set to open in Hong Kong and Macao on Feb. 17, and in Guangdong province and Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region on Feb. 20. It will be the only Cantonese-language film in this year's Spring Festival lineup and the first such entry in recent years. Set in 2012, the once-glamorous Club EJ manager Foon (Wong) faces a hostile takeover by his ruthless ex-wife, Madame V (Cheng). Forced to modernize, they soon discover a powerful conglomerate is pulling the strings. To save their neon empire, the bickering exes must reunite for an epic last stand. Directed by Jack Ng Wai-lun of "A Guilty Conscience" fame, the film marks Wong and Cheng's first Chinese New Year blockbuster together. A dazzling ensemble of hostesses, including Louise Wong and Fish Liew, helps recreate the heyday of East Tsim Sha Tsui nightlife. The powerhouse cast and creative team have ignited strong audience anticipation. Since its announcement, the film has become a top choice for Chinese New Year viewing in Guangdong and Guangxi, with many locals expressing pride in having a Cantonese comedy in the holiday lineup. Audiences from other regions have also voiced enthusiasm, with some even expressing envy and eagerly awaiting the chance to experience the film's exclusive humor. The film will be released in Malaysia and Singapore on Feb. 16, followed by releases in the U.K. and Ireland on Feb. 20, and in Australia and New Zealand on Feb. 26.
