Tianjin, located in northern China, is a transitional area from the Yanshan Mountains to the coastal plain. It has a total land area of 11,9665 square kilometers, with the mounded plain area accounting for 93%.
On May 12, 1991, with the approval from the State Council, Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone was established in the seaport area of Tianjin Port; on October 15, 2002, the municipal Party committee of Tianjin approved the development and construction of Tianjin Airport Economic Area, so Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone was further expanded.
Established on December 6th, 1984 upon the approval of the State Council, the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (abbreviated as TEDA and transliterated as Taida) is one of China's earliest national-level development zones.
Binhai New Area, located in the eastern coastal part of Tianjin, serves as the maritime gateway for the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
