Hunan cuisine, also known as Xiang cuisine, is one of the eight regional cuisines of China.
Hunan's cultural industry began to thrive at the end of 1980s. Since
then, the province's strengths in publishing, broadcasting and
television, and entertainment and performances have emerged as the three
key "calling cards" of Hunan Province.
Located in the south central part of the Chinese mainland, Hunan has long been known for its natural beauty.
Hunan lies between 25' - 30 ' N. It has a humid continental and subtropical monsoon climate.
According to the annual statistics released by the provincial statistics
bureau, in 2024, Hunan's value-added industrial output of enterprises
above the designated size grew by 7.3 percent year on year.
According to the historical records, human activities can be traced back
to at least 50,000-100,000 years ago within the boundary of Hunan.
In 2007, the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan (CZT) City Cluster was approved
as a National Comprehensive Supporting Reform Trial Area to build a
"Two-oriented (resource-saving and environment-friendly)" Society.
Hunan has an extensive network of rivers, with a fresh water area
covering 13,500 square kilometers. In the north lies Dongting Lake, the
second largest freshwater lake in China.
As of the end of 2023, the permanent resident population in Hunan
Province was 65.68 million, 360,000 less than the previous year, or a
0.55% year-on-year decrease.
The State Council Information Office held a press conference on May 10 in Beijing to brief the media on Hunan's efforts in pursuing high-quality development and promoting the rise of central China and the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
