Daqing Oilfield, discovered on Sept. 26, 1959, is China's largest oil production base. The oil field was a wilderness before its discovery in 1959.
In 1960, tens of thousands of oil workers from all over China responded to the nation's call to build Daqing Oilfield. Exemplified by Wang Jinxi, they devoted themselves to working in the field despite the harsh weather and working conditions.
In less than three years, the successful exploration and development of Daqing Oilfield was crucial for China to shed its reputation as oil-deficient. Since then, China has been able to guarantee supply of petroleum and the petroleum industry in China has also entered a completely new stage.
