Nanjing is situated in the hilly lands of the Nanjing-Zhenjiang-Yangzhou Region. Winding among rolling low mountains and gently-sloped mounds as well as more forbidding and dangerous terrain, the mighty Yangtze River runs across the urban area of Nanjing, around which stand the Qixia Mountain, the Niushou Mountain, the Mufu Mountain, the Shizi Mountain, the Qingliang Mountain, and the Jilong Mountain. These also stand alongside the Qinhuai River, the Xuanwu Lake and the Mochou Lake, creating a marvelous integration of natural and cultural landscapes.
