Biopharmaceutical Industry
As one of the "core and hard technology" industries in Xi'an, the biopharmaceutical industry has developed fast, with traditional industries of chemical medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, biological medicine, and medical equipment as the basis, and Xi'an High-tech Industries Development Zone as the core development district.
At present, Xi'an’s biopharmaceutical enterprises are mainly distributed in the fields of chemical medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, biological medicine, and medical equipment. There are also a small number of Contrast Research Organizations (CRO).
New Material Industry
As one of Xi'an's eight core and hard technology industries, the new material industry has maintained high-speed growth in recent years.
Since 2021, there have been 112 new materials enterprises above a designated size – those with an annual output value of 20 million yuan ($2.96 million) or more – in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, with a combined total output value of 23.79 billion yuan, up 22 percent on the previous year.
The city's high-strength and high-durability titanium alloy bars, alloy powders for 3D printing and other products were listed in the first batch of application catalogues for new materials by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Cultural Tourism Industry
As an important birthplace of Chinese civilization and one of the world's four ancient capitals, Xi'an now has six world cultural heritage sites, including the site of Emperor Qin Shi Huang's Mausoleum (with Terracotta Army), the Site of Weiyang Palace in Chang'an City of the Western Han Dynasty, the Site of Daming Palace in Chang'an City of the Tang Dynasty, the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, and the Xingjiao Temple Pagoda. It is also home to 92 national A-level scenic spots, including three 5A-level scenic spots and 28 4A-level scenic spots.
At present, Xi'an City is accelerating the construction of the “Cultural Creation Corridor” led by Qujiang New Zone, and the development of the “Top Ten Cultural Industrial Parks”; advancing the “Famous City, Masters, and Masterpieces” project; building characteristic cultural brands such as Xi’an film and television production industry, performance in the Tang Dynasty style, Xi'an drum music, and the Qinqiang opera; promoting international tourism; integrating tourism, culture, science and technology, convention and exhibition, trade, and sports; and prompting high-quality tourism in full scale.
High-tech Industry
Xi'an Hi-tech Industries Development Zone
Xi'an Hi-tech Industries Development Zone (thereafter referred as Xi'an Hi-tech Zone) was established in March 1991, as first group of state level hi-tech zone approved by the State Council. With comprehensive development indices and science and technology innovation capabilities ranking top 5 among all the national hi-tech zones in China, Xi'an Hi-tech Zone was chosen by state government as one of the six development zones to be built into a world class science park with favorable support from the government. In 2015, Xi'an Hi-tech Zone was approved by the state council to be developed into a National Innovation Demonstration Zone. In 2016, Xi'an Hi-tech Zone was identified as the core area of China (Shaanxi) Pilot Free Trade Zone.
Xi'an Hi-tech Zone, with total planned area of 155 square kilometers, focuses on development of four pillar industries, including electronic information, advanced equipment manufacturing, bio-pharmaceutical and modern service. In 2017, Xi'an Hi-tech Zone has generated gross revenue of 1.45 trillion RMB. There are about 60000 enterprises registered in Xi'an Hi-tech Zone. It has introduced renowned international and Chinese companies to establish their presence there, including over 100 Fortune 500 and world class companies, such as Samsung, Siemens, Honeywell, GE, Emerson, IBM, Applied Materials, Micron, Johnson & Johnson, Bosch, Intel, Schneider, Bluescope, Caterpillar, Eaton, NEC, Fujitsu, etc. Prominent Chinese leading companies such as Huawei, ZTE, BYD, Fast Gear, China Digital etc. have also established their R&D or manufacturing bases in Xi'an Hi-tech Zone.
