Land resources

Jiangsu has a land area of 107,200 sqkm, accounting for 1.12% of the country's total. Land resources are mainly plains, with good natural properties. Most of the plains have deep soils and medium to high fertility, which are suitable for the development of farming operations. Land use is adequate and the utilization rate of land development is high. The total area of coastal mudflats is 381,933.3 hectares.

Marine resources

Facing South Korea and Japan across the sea, Jiangsu boasts a superior geographical location and important strategic position. The total area is about 37,500 sqkm and there are 25 islands in total. In offshore area, there are the nationally famous Haizhou Bay Fishing Ground, Lvsi Fishing Ground, Yangtze River Estuary Fishing Ground and Dasha Fishing Ground.

Mineral resources

Jiangsu has discovered 135 kinds of minerals, of which 78 kinds of resource reserves have been identified. The province has identified 493 mining areas with known mineral resource reserves, with small and medium-sized areas accounting for 77% of the total. There is a shortage of strategic minerals such as coal, iron, and copper. The region is rich in minerals such as rock salt, garnet, titanium ore (rutile), attapulgite clay, and geothermal resources.

Forest resources

Jiangsu has 1.56 million hectares of forests, with a forest coverage rate of 15.2% and a tree coverage rate of 24.09%. There are nine national forest cities, seven national model greening cities and 39 national model greening counties (cities and districts) in Jiangsu.

Wetland resources

Jiangsu has 3.12 million hectares of wetlands, ranking 6th in China. The protection rate of wetlands and natural wetlands stands at 47.6% and 65.1% respectively.
