Under the agreement, signed at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on April 15, the two companies will collaborate exclusively in India over three years, deploying at least 15 CINITY premium large-screen projection systems nationwide.
They will also establish a CINITY mastering center in Hyderabad to produce CINITY-exclusive versions of Hollywood and Indian films, with the expanded network supplying content across South Asia, Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
UFO Moviez distributes films to 4,049 screens across 1,359 cities and towns in India, serving nearly 1.8 billion admissions annually. It was the first company in the country to digitize cinemas via satellite, delivering films electronically to theaters nationwide.
CINITY is a premium large-screen cinema format developed by China Film Technology, offering 4K resolution, high frame rate, high dynamic range and immersive sound.
"CINITY's premium large screens will provide a platform for Indian exhibitors looking to provide a premium large screen experience in line with the best of industry standards, enabling cinemagoer to experience cinema in its truest form on a grand scale and with unmatched quality," said Rajesh Mishra, executive director and group CEO of UFO Moviez.
This agreement represents a significant step in CINITY's international expansion, following the format's successful rollout in Europe.
China Film Technology said the deal advances China's proprietary film projection technology overseas as the country's 15th Five-Year Plan gets underway. The Hyderabad mastering center, a representative said, marks a leap from equipment export to technology export, and from importing content to bringing it to new audiences.
The company said it will continue to support global film industry upgrades and cultural exchange through its projection technology.
