The Dazu Rock Carvings in Chongqing, originating in the early Tang Dynasty and reaching their zenith during the Song Dynasty, provide outstanding evidence of the harmonious synthesis of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. The 141 sites house more than 50,000 statues, representing the highest achievement in global grotto art between the 9th and 13th centuries, standing as the final monumental milestone in the history of rock-carving artistry.
Inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1999, the Dazu Rock Carvings were acclaimed as "a masterpiece of human creative genius," recognized for their outstanding historical, artistic, and scientific significance.
