The refined version of the dance drama "Dazu: A Sacred Vision" has recently premiered, bringing new artistic depth to the acclaimed production. Following its first national tour in the first half of 2025—which featured 37 performances across 12 cities—the creative team continued to polish the work. After being shortlisted for the final evaluation of the 18th China National Arts Fund, the team implemented comprehensive enhancements to the drama's narrative structure, pacing, details, choreography, and music.

On October 18 and 19, the upgraded production was staged at Yibin Jinjiang Theatre as part of the China National Arts Fund final assessment. Additionally, the drama is scheduled to perform at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing from October 31 to November 1.

Liu Cui, the chief director, emphasized that the team has always aimed to create a timeless artistic masterpiece, paying close attention to audience feedback. "We maintained the approach of refining the drama throughout the tour," Liu stated. After synthesizing feedback from viewers nationwide, the team finalized the upgraded version, strengthening the narrative through the perspective of the male protagonist, Xiao Fu, to create smoother plot transitions and stronger emotional resonance.

"The audience will follow Xiao Fu's circumstances and inner journey, entering the story of the millennium-old stone carvings through his memories," Liu added.

Inspired by the UNESCO World Heritage site, the Dazu Rock Carvings, the drama focuses on the stories of the artisans. Through ten chapters, it portrays their pursuit of a better life and their vision of an ideal society. The production vividly depicts the hardships of cave carving, the bond between masters and apprentices, scenes of daily happiness, and idyllic beauty, offering a rich interpretation of the cultural and artistic significance of the Dazu Rock Carvings.
